Kaukokiito aims to expand its business, with contract logistics playing a central role in its growth strategy. The company partnered with Trailmaker to achieve alignment on goals and measures, and to create a structured approach to leading the change.
Kaukokiito is a long-established logistics company providing transport, terminal, and warehousing services. As the Finland’s leading private transport system, its blue-and-white trucks and trailers are a familiar sight on the nation’s roads.
Now the company – that is owned by four carriers – is aiming to strengthen its position as a comprehensive logistics provider.
“One of our strategic goals is to grow the contract logistics business and become an even more recognized operator in the field”, says CEO Petri Angervuori.
The goal is ambitious, and it called for a change in the company’s strategy. According to Angervuori, they recognized that the greatest challenge in creating the new strategy was reaching a shared vision of the goals and measures while building a sense of urgency around implementation.
“Individual carriers had been pursuing growing their contract logistics business separately, but now we wanted to get everyone working towards a shared goal. We also wanted to speed up the process and be more determined”, Angervuori says.
Trailmaker was brought in to help achieve a unity of vision and to establish a more structured approach to leading the strategic change across the five companies that operate Kaukokiito’s business.
Angervuori says the Trailmaker process helped the company’s leadership reach consensus on what they want to achieve and what actions are needed. They also introduced a framework for tracking and analyzing progress.
“If a milestone isn’t being realized, the management team analyzes the reason behind it and works together to remove the obstacles. Trailmaker’s model helps us better identify the obstacles related to strategy execution and it’s more systematic than the one we had before. It definitely helps us move things forward.”
It’s still early days in implementing the new strategy, but Angervuori feels confident.
“I don’t see any reason why we wouldn’t achieve our strategic goals. The model works, and the cooperation with Trailmaker will continue.”
